The PRC has strict requirements that have to be met before you become a Volunteer .
Welcome,    
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer within the Parrot Rescue Centre.  
There is a vital assessment process that we do put our volunteers through before we accept you as a definite PRC Volunteer. The PRC requires dedicated and trustworthy people to help and work with us, therefore applying to become a volunteer at the PRC has a similar process as applying for employment.  
If you pass the Volunteer assessment process, you will have the opportunity to choose from the following options that are available at present:  
  • Working at the PRC,
  • Providing feedback about the site, such as sending us Parrot facts, FAQ and writing articles.
  • To rehabilitate behaviour problem birds on your premises for however long that particular bird needs, then returned to the PRC.
  • Having the ability to adopt a bird from the PRC.
  • Invitations to join in on working bees and PRC events.
 
Volunteer Process Steps:
   
1.

A written letter explaining the following (Must pass all of the following steps):

  • List of parrot books and video’s that have been read and watched, eg- Guide to a well- Behaved Parrot by Mattie Sue Athan, etc (a minimum of two books and must include basic care and behaviour books)
  • List of bird related courses that have been competed, eg Parrot behaviour workshops, Currumbin wildlife course etc (Parrot behaviour workshop is a requirement)
  • A List of Species of parrots in which you have had contact with for long periods and have an understanding of that particular birds and species behaviour, diet and housing.
  • List of your pet parrots, age, particular behaviours etc.
  • A hundred word paragraph explaining: Why you want to volunteer at the PRC?
  • Two qualified references that are willing to talk on your behalf, eg Avian Vet, Behaviour Consultant, Employer etc.
2.
Pet Behaviour Workshop or Pet Behaviour Consultation (If you have attended the following please attach the details of the workshop or consultation to the above letter.)
3.
Standard Employment Resume attached with above letter.
4.
Phone interview after all the above has been completed.
   

If you do not have the relevant experience and knowledge expressed above, please do not be turned away. We still would like to hear from you, so if you could please write a detailed letter explaining what you can provide for the PRC and what you would like to gain from being part of the PRC.
